The 萌妹社区 System announced today the renaming of the Administrative Leadership Development Program (ALDP) to the Dr. Elson S. Floyd Administrative Leadership Development Program.
More than 100 members of the university community gathered for the ALDP spring retreat on April 19 where the announcement was made.
"Elson had a sincere passion for improving leadership. He was willing to let leaders grow and learn and encouraged them in that growth," Vice President for University Relations Steve Knorr said. "He gave me a chance to do just those things at a very young age for this university and in many ways you are getting that chance now through this class."
Floyd served as UM System President from 2003-2007. During his tenure, the program, which originated as the Leadership Development Program (LDP) designed for faculty professional development, was expanded to include staff leaders as the ALDP. Knorr said Floyd appreciated the value of professional development and continuous improvement.
“Elson Floyd’s legacy in Missouri stems from his passion for improving leadership and enhancing professional development for the betterment of the university,” UM System Interim President Michael Middleton said. “We are fortunate for Elson’s vision as we continue this program for generations of leaders to come.”
The ALDP is a prestigious program that provides professional development opportunities and ongoing support to administrative leaders on all campuses systemwide. ALDP enhances effective leadership, with a focus on building the foundation for a robust teaching and learning environment. Since 2005, the ALDP has supported an annual cohort of 30 to 35 administrative leaders who demonstrate the qualities of the 萌妹社区 name and represent the best of leadership at a higher education institution.
